Problem with my electric violin?

For Christmas, my parents got me a used electric violin. (Fender, pretty much brand new.) When I first got it, there was a problem with the G string. When I played on it, the tone changed depending on how much pressure I put on it with the bow. So if I pressed harder with the bow, the string would go sharp, and if I took weight off with the bow, it would go back down again. I replaced the string, but that didn’t help! Please tell me how to fix this problem. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Please and thank you!!

I’m not a violinist, but I’ve played guitar for many years.

Every once in a while, guitars need what’s known as a “set-up.”

Basically, this involves checking intonation at the bridge, raising and lowering the bridge saddles.(On which the strings rest,) and setting the length of the string so the guitar is in tune up and down the neck…and even adjusting a metal rod in the neck (truss rod) which affects the striaghtness of the neck.

Your violin probably needs a comparable “set-up.”

With guitars, this is usually no more than $35.

If you have a good folk music shop in the area..especially one that specializes in acoustic instruments…guitars, mandolins, ukuleles, dobros, violins…etc…I’d take it there and see if they can correct the problem.

I’m sure it’s nothing serious and your violin will play and sound much better.

Best of luck.
